My dear God this book is just awful I have tried for 3 months to finish this book I ve even gone so far as to buy the audio book in an attempt to complete it but it sounds dwaatjw as it reads like a low rate made for tv mini series It s just dire Genuinely by far the worst thing I have read EVER Please do not pay to read this tter rubbish Thoroughly appreciated this well written historically based book The characters spring to life and the times they occupied in Charleston become vivid witness to the atrocities there whilst maintaining the power and determination of the black Americans to rise above and conuer the cruelty of the white supremists of the early 19th century The only negative comment I d make is the clich of finding Mary A haunting and redemptive novel inspired by the heartbreaking true events that occurred at a church in Charleston South Carolina A Tangled Mercy examines the horrifying depths of human brutality and our enduring hope for forgivenessAfter the sudden death of her troubled mother struggling Harvard grad student Kate Drayton walks out on her lectureand her entire New England life Haunted by Sleepless (Bird of Stone, unansweredestions and her own ncertain future she fle.

The plot to keep me going I struggled a bit with what seemed to me an excessively long winded and rather breathless style of writing I felt that less would definitely have been I really wanted to like the book and I m glad it has told me about an episode in 19th century American history that I d never heard of with background to an atrocity in recent years which I remember in the news I got the impression that the writer was so desperate to bring these stories to our attention that she tried a bit too hard I was not enamoured of the first part and almost put the book down but continued and was glad I did The author captures the feel of Charleston and makes me want to visit Her characters are well drawn and it is a good story Good reading.
